Springtime on Lake Como isn’t just a season — it’s a feeling. Softer light, greener hills, clearer waters. It’s the perfect time to slow down and enjoy one of life’s simplest pleasures: a picnic. But not just anywhere. With a blanket under your arm, something delicious in your bag, and a bit of time to spare, here’s a relaxed journey from Menaggio to Como through the best places to enjoy a picnic with a view — scenic, accessible, and far from the crowds.

In Gravedona, Parco La Serenella is one of the most popular and family-friendly picnic spots on the lake. Wide green lawns, picnic tables, a playground, stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and direct lake access. Everything you need for a full day outdoors — even a small bar nearby if you want to top up your picnic basket.

Further north in Gera Lario, the alpine air is crisp but mild, and the lakeside promenade feels peaceful and open. The picnic area near the small harbor offers incredible views of the Valtellina valley and Mount Legnone. It’s a perfect pause for those walking or cycling the Sentiero Valtellina.

In Colico, you’ll find space, breeze, and beautiful light. The lakeside park and promenade towards Forte Montecchio are ideal for laying down a blanket, flying a kite, or simply reading in the sun. It’s lively yet never crowded in spring — perfect for families, dogs, and lazy afternoons.

At the Abbey of Piona, the Oliveto peninsula feels like sacred ground — quiet, natural, timeless. Whether you visit the monastery or not, the grass just above the lake, surrounded by olive trees and birdsong, is one of the most peaceful picnic spots anywhere around the lake. Bring local bread and cheese, and let the silence do the rest.

Further down the lake, Bellano is a perfect mix of convenience and authenticity. Beyond the Orrido gorge, the area near the lido and along the waterfront offers grassy spots for sitting down and watching the boats pass by. You’re never far from a bakery or a bell tower. It’s a picnic with a local soul.

In Mandello del Lario, the lakeside park is welcoming and well-equipped. Shaded corners, open lawns, benches, and a great location if you’ve just visited the Moto Guzzi Museum. It’s a day that blends culture and nature, with a strong local community spirit in the background.

Although the city of Lecco itself lacks proper green spaces for a laid-back picnic, you only need to cross the bridge to reach the opposite shore in Malgrate, where the atmosphere changes completely. The newly renovated lakeside promenade features wide pedestrian paths, well-kept lawns, benches overlooking the water, and even a small beach. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxed picnic, with open views of Lecco and the distinctive silhouette of Mount Resegone. A simple yet scenic break, just a short walk from the city center.

Back on the western side, Bellagio offers timeless views. While the gardens of the historic villas don’t usually allow picnics, there are stretches along the promenade and behind the main square where you can stop, sit quietly, and enjoy lunch facing the central part of the lake. Just walk a few steps beyond the ferry dock and you’ll find calm.

The Lenno Lido and the nearby section of the Greenway del Lago are a hidden gem. Neatly kept, relaxed, and with direct views of Villa Balbianello, they’re perfect for a peaceful break between walks.

In Cernobbio, Parco Meier is one of the best-maintained green spaces around. Open, grassy, and rarely crowded, it offers one of the cleanest panoramic views across the water toward the mid-lake area.

We end our journey in Como, at the Giardini a Lago. Just steps from the city center, this wide urban park is perfect for those with limited time but still wanting to enjoy a lakeside moment. Bring a book, a sandwich, and sit close to the water. The buzz of the city fades just enough to let you feel like you’re truly somewhere else.

Laying down a picnic blanket on Lake Como is more than a practical choice — it’s a way of being. It’s about taking time, eating slowly, watching the water, and letting your mind wander. Whether in a quiet cove in Bellano or a lively lawn in Colico, every picnic tells a small story of connection — to the place, to the people, and to the moment.
